Changing the priority of a specific process on your computer allows you to allocate more memory usage to a specific program or service. This allows the program or service to run faster and more efficiently than normal. This tutorial will show you how to speed up Windows XP by using the Windows Task Manager to change process priorities on your PC.

Step #1
The first thing you need to do is open the Task Manager. To do this, simply hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete on your keyboard. If the Windows Task Manager window doesn't open, a different one will open displaying several options. Click the Task Manager button to open the utility.

Step #2.
Click on the Processes tab in the Task Manager. This will display a complete list of all running processes on your computer. If you are not sure what process to select, simply click the Applications tab (the tab located to the far left). After doing that, right-click on the program or application you want to prioritize and click Go to Process. This would take you directly to the process.

Step #3.
Now you need to right-click the process you wish to speed up. Next, hover the mouse over the option named Set Priority. Alternatively, just hit the letter P on your keyboard.

Step #4.
Click on the priority level that you want for the program. You can speed up this process of changing priority levels by using the keyboard shortcuts described as follows:

L = Low, B = Below normal, N = normal, A = above normal, H = high, R = realtime

Step #5.
Click Yes on the confirmation window that appears once you make your selection.

By default, all the priority levels start out as “normal”. The higher you set a program's priority, the more the system resources that will be used for the application. This in turn will effectively make the program run faster.

*Setting a program to “Low” is recommended if the program is not necessarily important.

*The “Realtime” option can be used for a program that needs to have maximum resources to run efficiently.

Warning: The Realtime option means that the specified process will have exclusive rights to the system resources above all other programs. Selecting this option may cause other processes to crash. It should only be used for programs specifically designed for real-time processing.

For a long time, people have wanted to be able to have an easy to way make a picture how of something that is on their computer screen. Many people knew about the Print Screen button's existence, but they did not know how to use it. Also, those that did know how to use it had to go through a lot of work and converting just to get the picture that they wanted. Even know, every keyboard comes with a Print Screen button, but Windows 7 Snipping tool may have made that button obsolete.

The Windows 7 snipping tool allows you snip any portion of your Windows 7 screen in the state that it is in when you click the option to use the Windows 7 snipping tool from the start menu. Not only can you easily print the screen into a easily useable picture format, but you can also crop the size of the image before you actually save the cropped picture. That can save you a lot of work if you are trying to get a picture off of you computer, but you wouldn't know how to save it otherwise. It also provides a good way to show somebody what you saw on your screen. Many people will find this very helpful when you are trying to troubleshoot your computer. This is because all of the people that you ask will be able to see exactly what you saw when you got the error. That eliminates the guessing games when it comes to trying to fix a computer.

Many people would assume that they would be snipping out a rectangular shape with the Windows 7 crop tool. The advanced features of the Windows 7 Snipping tool allow you to cut out a shape of your choice. That means you can crop out a star shape copy of what is on your computer screen if you wanted to. It also gives you the option to crop windows separate, and of course it gives you the option to grab the entire screen and save it into a JPEG image file.

Some users running 32-bit (x86) version of Windows 7 may face error where computer does not start up or cannot boot up again after computer is forced shut down. When user tries to restart the computer, the startup process stops at a black screen which infamously known as Black Screen of Death (BSoD).

Computer is considered as forced shutdown when user presses the physical Power button on desktop or notebook computer to turn off the PC without properly shutdown the operating system via Start Menu Power Menu. Sudden shutdown can also happens when electricity is cut off, such as in the case of electricity current trip out or electrical power failure and outage.

The Windows 7 unable to start or boot up error may also happen in a rare scenario where the power goes off when the computer is entering hibernation, especially in desktop computer where computer is entering sleep mode when the power button is pressed because hybrid sleep is enabled by default.

The Windows 7 does not start problem occurs because of the following conditions:

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is disabled either in the BIOS or in the operating system.

The system is configured to enter hibernation or to enter hybrid sleep mode when the power button is pressed.

The language version of the operating system that you are running is a double-byte character set (DBCS) language. For example, you are running a Chinese, Korean, or Japanese version of Windows 7 on the computer.

Microsoft’s KB974719 provides a workaround to resolve the issue. Just insert a Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2008 installation DVD into the optical drive, and boot up the computer by using the DVD-drive. Then, reboot and start the computer in normal mode. For user who has a a Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) disc for Windows 7, it’s also possible to use the WinPE disc to start the computer.

To avoid and prevent the problem from reoccurring, download and apply the following KB974719 hotfix update package to fix and patch the OS:

Windows6.1-KB974719-x86.exe

I have 4gb DDR3 RAM (Two 2gb Sticks) and I keep getting complete system freezes. No error message, no BSOD, nothing, everything just suddenly freezes, like its just a photo of my screen. Cant move my mouse, cant ctrl-alt-del, i have to reset my PC using the button. It is more common while playing games and MUCH more common while doing things like publishing a movie in movie maker. The most often it freezes is on Fallout 3, which it freezes like every 10 minutes. When i am using speakers the sound just loops REALLY fast but when im using a headset the sound just stops altogether. I dont know what is causing it but im pretty sure it is the RAM. I am going to go out and buy new RAM to fix this but first I want to make sure that it is a problem with the RAM and i am not going to buy new RAM that wont even fix the problem. So can someone confirm that this is a RAM problem?

Study more about the way to Windows cease mistakes right here, so that it is possible to retain your laptop working with out mistakes and viruses.

I’ve had a few questions about Outlook 2003 on Windows 7 that result in an Agent error: “The Office Assistant requires Microsoft Agent 2.0 or later versions. This product is available in the Office System Pack.”

Since Agent is not included in Windows 7, anyone who tries to use the Office Assistant will receive this error. The solution is to not use the Office Assistant.
If you’d like to keep using Merlin, Microsoft has released a hotfix:

PST File Recovery – CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) is the general technique applied to implement data reliability. Basically, it is a function which is responsible for detecting any changes to data that are used across network or stored on storage devices. Microsoft Outlook PST employs CRC check each time when you open the file. If you get Cyclic Redundancy Check errors while trying to access PST, this indicates errors with your PST and in many cases with the hard disk. In other words, CRC errors while accessing PST are not indicative of Outlook problems but are actually of issues related to location where PST resides. When PST gets corrupted due to such CRC errors, you will require restoring it from the most recent backup. In case of any backup related concerns, you should alternatively use Outlook PST Recovery tools.

As an example, you might encounter the similar error message while accessing your Outlook PST file:

“File pathfilename.pst could not be accessed. Data error. Cyclic redundancy check.”

Or

“Data error (cyclic redundancy check)”

This error specifically occurs after you download an email message to your Outlook PST file. Where, ‘path’ refers to the location of the PST file and ‘filename.pst’ denotes the name of PST file.

As additional symptoms, you might fail to view few messages which have been downloaded. Also, when you click to view the Deleted Items folder messages, you get another error message as:

“Error 0×80040116”

Cause

Microsoft Outlook exhibits such errors and symptoms if its personal data store (i.e. PST file) is damaged or corrupted. A PST file might get corrupted due to any of following reasons:

1. Unexpected shutdown
2. Network errors
3. Outlook bugs
4. Placing PST on LAN/WAN network
5. Virus infection

Such events introduce inconsistencies in PST file and make it inaccessible in most of the cases. Outlook might also show CRC errors if hard disk is suffering from errors.

Solution

In order to correct CRC errors with Outlook, you should first check your hard disk for inconsistencies. You should then delete the damaged PST and recreate a new one. Alternatively, you can Repair Outlook PST by using commercial PST repair applications, specifically designed to repair such damaged PST files.

Checking Hard Disk Errors

To check hard disk for errors, you need to run chkdsk/f command as follows:

a) Click Start-> Run and in the Open box, type cmd to open the command prompt and press Enter

b) After the command prompt is opened, you should then type chkdsk /f and then press Enter.

c) You might receive an error similar to:

“The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive.
